AIIMS logoGovernment of India has announced today that 25 new All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) will be built.

These new AIIMS are going to open in cities like Mumbai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Pune, Surat, Patna, Jaipur, Kanpur, Lucknow, Nagpur, Ghaziabad, Indore, Coimbatore, Kochi, Patna, Gwalior, Bhopal, Thrissur, Vadodara, Agra and Visakhapatnam.

Each new AIIMS will have a minimum of 2000 beds capacity in various departments including super-speciality departments. It will also have at least 200 Under Graduate (UG) Medical MBBS seats, 150 PG MD/MS seats and 50 super-speciality seats for students to take admission via exam conducted by AIIMS in May and November month of each year.

Decision comes after criticism of Ministry of Health by Media and public about poor healthcare services in government hospitals in Metro cities. Also Ministry has plans to increase UG and PG Medical seats across various parts of the country.

Each new AIIMS will be given a grant of Rs. 500 crore rupees for building infrastructure, recruiting staff and to buy expensive Medical equipment.
