Interview

Q. In what year did you pass out your MBBS (Completion of Internship)?

Ans. 2013

Q. What were your MBBS percentage marks (aggregate or final year) ?

Ans. 64.2%

Q. What ranks had you secured in any previous PG medical entrance exams you gave?

Ans. Rank 150 in May 2014 AIIMS PG.

Q. What is the secret of your success?

Ans. There is nothing like a secret to success. All I did was to make a plan and stick to it. Come what may. It is not necessary to study 14-15 hours everyday for a year. I gave only 8 hours of study a day for 8 months and ramped it up in the last two months. So proper planning and setting every day targets was key to me.

Q. How was your internship?

Ans. Our internship at GMCH is hard. We do not really get a lot of time to study. So I decided to let go of that one year and enjoy myself while I could.

Q.  When did you seriously start preparing for the entrance exam?

Ans. 1st January 2014

Q. How many hours did you study each day?

Ans. 8 hours from January to mid September. 10 hours for 1 month. And 14 hours for the last 2 weeks.

Q. Which subjects did you focus on?

Ans. I focused on all the subjects. I divided time according to the length and importance of each subject and followed that religiously.

Q. What were your study methods? How many revisions did you do for each subject?

Ans. I did each subject thrice from the MCQ books. And 4 times from my class notes.

Q. What was your strategy for the exam day? How many questions did you attempt and why?

Ans. In PGI it is all about the options. Not the number of questions. I attempted 562 options out of 1250. And I took very less risk. I only marked those options which i was sure of more than 70%.

Q. Did you join any classes or test series? Was it useful?

Ans. Yes. I joined DBMCI coaching classes and also their test series. The study material and the tests which I gave were absolutely wonderful and greatly helped me achieve my aim.

Q. What is your advice to future aspirants?

Ans. It is important to work hard, yes. But it is all wasted if you do not study in an organised manner. You have got to set yourself targets for every hour every day every week and every month. Only then will you be able to complete the vast syllabus.

Q. Indian PG entrances are highly competitive, so to crack them students end up in appearing for multiple PG exams with some of them having same exam with different slots and papers , please extend your views on this and their pros and cons of appearing in multiple PG entrances.

Ans. I am actually in favour of multiple PG exams. The format may be different but that also allows different students to excel in different exams. Also along with your preparation the day of the exam also matters. If you are having a bad day and there is only one PG exam for everything then you will have to wait another year to give again. Which I think is harsh.

We are ending this interview with our hearty congratulations and best wishes for future to this talented person, Dr. Akash Bansal
