In the Hon’ble Supreme Court judgement dated 28/04/2016 in Writ petition 261/2016, SC ordered that NEET will be a single entrance exam for All India UG medical admission.

On 09/05/2016, SC order rejected an application by states and private medical colleges including minority colleges to hold their own entrance exam for UG medical admission. SC did not find that NEET violates any rights of the state or private medical colleges. NEET also does not violate admission through reservation or to minorities, it is only a single eligibility exam for MBBS/ BDS.

SC also took into consideration students who did not or could not appear for NEET-I or did not prepare well for it. Those students can now appear for NEET-II but only after they give up their candidature or NEET-I. For this, SC has even allowed respondents to reschedule NEET-II if necessary.

Also to ensure the total credibility of NEET to be held by CBSE, the Oversight Committee appointed by SC shall also oversee the NEET-II.

There was no mention of NEET for PG medical admission in these judgements.
