Few months ago I got an email from Prof. Shrikant Kalantri saying that he wanted to give me a review copy of his book HANDBOOK OF ENGINEERING & MEDICAL ADMISSIONS IN MAHARASHTRA. I asked him to come to KEM Hospital when he comes to Mumbai to give me this book but unfortunately I was on leave when He came so I was unable to meet him. But book was given to a friend of mine which I am reviewing today.

As the title suggests this book is about admission process to get into undergraduate Engineering and Medical institutes in Maharashtra. It features various heading for admission into Engineering courses, NITs & IIITs, IITs and MBBS/ BDS courses. I will focus more on MBBS/ BDS admission as it is my area of specialty. Also I have not read this book word by word so cannot comment about minute details of the book.

Medical section covers areas like declaration of results and State Merit List (SML), eligibility criteria, reservation and quotas, seat matrix, steps of admission process by DMER, fee structure and refunds, service bond & penalty, admission into private medical and dental colleges and admission details into other All India level institutes (like AIIMS, CMC, JIPMER etc). In the end it gives cutoffs of Medical/ Dental colleges where admission is given on the basis of MH – CET and Asso – CET.

Now most of these details can be found in MH- CET and other exams prospectus but the thing which makes this book different is more details and easy explanation provided. It also detailed seats structure of the institutes.

Best part of this book is cutoffs of MH – CET and Asso – CET of previous year. Although it gives 30% All India open quota seats and 70% state open quota seats cut off but it does not give category wise cutoffs which for 50% of admissions.

To end this is a good book for students who want one place for all details of both Engineering and Medical/ Dental admissions. MRP is Rs. 250 which makes it very small amount for such book and students should consider buying it if they need more details about both admissions. For others, you can settle for prospectus of the individual exams for required details and DMER website for admission  cut offs and merit lists.
