After adding many comparative reviews of various years, I am now writing comparative reviews of 1st-year subjects and starting with Biochemistry. I am writing here short reviews of various books which I have read during my UG days. Along with those, I am also mentioning various other textbooks of biochemistry, books for practicals and viva and MCQ’s books for PG medical exams preparation. Books marked as (Recommended)  are the ones which students should consider buying according to their needs.

Textbooks

Harper’s Illustrated Biochemistry by David A. Bender , Peter J. Kennelly Victor W. Rodwell (Recommended)

I have mentioned this book on top of all books as according to me this is the best book for understanding Biochemistry. In my UG days, I still remember I used to read Vasudevan for primary reading but there were many charts which I had marked in that book to refer to Harper. The reason is that there is no book I had come across which gives biochemistry charts as good as Harper. I would highly recommend all the student to at least have a look at this book as see how good it is. Also, this book is not a book which you would like to read for your exams. It is only for better understanding of the subjects.

Textbook of Biochemistry for Medical Students with Revision Exercises Booklet by Vasudevan. D.M, Sreekumari S, Kannan Vaidyanathan (Recommended)

As I mentioned in my UG days, this was the book I used to read. In my batch of 120 students, I was among the handful of students who used to read this book. Rest all used to read Satyanarayan. I have compared both books, and I think Vasudevan is a better book than Satyanarayan. I think students should prefer this book over other. I am yet to have a look at latest editions to make the comparisons but still, I am recommending this book.

Biochemistry by Satyanarayana (Recommended)

As mentioned earlier, this is a mass book and is read by many students. The only reason why so many students read Satyanarayan is probably recommendation of seniors. But as with all colleges, most of them have not rea or referred to multiple books, so they cannot really compare 2 books. This does not mean that this is a bad book, it is a very good book but Vasudevan is better.

Biochemistry by Naik Pankaja

Textbook of Biochemistry for Medical Students by Mohammed Rafi

I have not read this book, but this book has been highly rated by various students on websites like Flipkart and Amazon. I cannot really compare this book with others, as I have not been through it.
