Doctor has been identified to be Dr. Sarita Tashniwal who was a junior resident doctor in Obstetrics and Gynaecology department. She was in 1st year of her Post Graduate course and was on night duty on Thursday. She hails from neighbouring Sivsagar district.<br \/>\nThe officials at AMC said that a nurse went to the ward around 7.30 a.m. and found her lying in a pool of blood. Report from Indian Medical Students Association Facebook page states that:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;Her body was wrapped in blanket and laid on the bed. We were informed that she was doing her night duty in ICU and after completing her works she was taking rest in the Doctors Room. Her phone records suggest that she talked over phone to an acquaintance around 05:00 AM in the morning. She was completely normal and apparently doing fine the previous night. The authority is trying to cover up the issue.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Students, interns and PGs in AMC have stopped working since the incidence was disclosed and have called for a strike until required legal actions are taken by concerned authority. Authority has asked doctors to resume their duty stating that it was a suicide attempt but according to doctors apparently its a murder, as her body was stabbed by a surgical knife on the left side of the neck.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Update (On 14-05-2014)<\/strong>: Ongoing controversy regarding death of Dr.\u00a0Sarita Tashniwal took new turns today when\u00a0Himanta Biswa Sarma (<span style=\"color: #292f33;\">Minister, Education and Health-Govt of Assam) posted few tweets which took\u00a0this matter in a new direction. According \u00a0to his tweets Dr. Dipmani, 2nd year resident of Obstetrics and Gynaecology department (Dr. Sarita Tashniwal was 1st year resident in same department) of AMC was involved\u00a0in murder of\u00a0Dr. Sarita Tashniwal. Also a grade IV employee Tiru was an active associate in this murder and police has claimed to have a witness to prove the case. Also Dr. Dipmani was actively involved in protests by doctors across Assam, who are asking for quick justice by moving the case in fast track court to punish the ward boy who was arrested by police in this murder case.
