National Board of Examinations (NBE) has introduced a new 3 years (3 years residency based programme) Super Specialty Course from January 2015 Academic Session Onwards. Course is of DNB Medical Genetics. As NBE notice describes it “The programme of DNB-Medical Genetics is for medical post graduates who wish to pursue a career in Medical Genetics. The program is designed to give physicians a working knowledge of the principles and practice of medical genetics. They will learn ethical principles as applied to genetic services and practice and will be provided hands on training in modern genetic technologies along with knowledge of principles of epidemiology and statistics as applied to genetic research.” The programme is being implemented in collaboration with Department of Biotechnology.
Admission Criteria
Candidates who are in possession of a post graduate degree/qualification (MD/DNB) in the field of Pediatrics, General Medicine or Obstetrics & Gynecology are eligible for admission to the programme.
Mode of Entrance
For Medical and pediatrics group (Candidates with MD/ DNB Medicine or Pediatrics) will have to appear for DNB CET-SS with 180 questions + 30 questions in Medical Genetics.
For Obstetrics & Gynecology group (Candidates with MD/ MS/ DNB Obstetrics & Gynecology) will have to appear for NBE FET with 100 questions (Scaled to a score of 180) + 30 questions in Medical Genetics.

- Centre for DNA Fingerprinting and Diagnostics (CDFD),Hyderabad
*Subject to Approval for Accreditation.
At present only institute in India offering Medical Genetics (DM – Medical Genetics) course is Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences, Lucknow (Deemed University, UP) with annual intake capacity of 2 seats.
